Well first of all, I am blown away that my daughter likes this story/movie. She's getting older! But she's my baby! More and more we're visiting "Claire's" and "The Icing", different purses are appearing, lip gloss, and pre-teen posters. Sigh. At least the dragon posters are still on the wall - but enough reminiscing, lol!

We went to see this movie recently at our local second-run one dollar movie theater. (I love that theater!) I really enjoyed the storyline.

I'm a big fan of classic "monster" films. Classic monsters as I see it are vampires, werewolfs, frankenstein - all the Van Helsing-ish things :D.

In this story, Edward (the star vampire) feels that he is a monster because everything about him exists to attract humans. And of course, that attraction is purposed for his survival and their demise. He is part of a group that finds other means of living, though he still is what he is.

I thought that they might go the route of his not knowing whether the girl in love with him was really in love with him - because of that - but they didn't at least in the movie. Maybe the writer goes there in the book. It's funny though, because the question entering my mind was similar to "satan's", wasn't it?:

Job 1:9 And Satan answered Jehovah and said, Does Job fear God for nothing?
Job 1:10 Have You not made a hedge for him, and for his house, and for all that is his all around? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock have increased in the land.

Of course Job loves God, says the accuser, he gets everything he wants.

Even considering loving love ("God is love"), how can we resist?

Yet in the story, irresistible-ness does not negate authenticity. Her love for him isn't questioned - not even within herself.

I don't feel that doubt about loving love either - that it isn't real somehow.

As you can see, my thoughts wander all over, lol! I loved the story though. It has been a while since I've seen a good love story that I didn't feel uncomfortable with my daughter sharing in. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Amie,

I read the 4 book series along with my youngest daughter (she is a huge Twilight groupie, lol!). Anyway, I think you would enjoy the series seeing how you enjoyed the movie. They were entertaining, and there were some themes explored there relating to predestination/having no soul, etc. The only criticism I would have of the series is that sometimes it drags in the Jacob storyline.
