Anything dealing with politics can become a complicated matter quite quickly.
There are however some fundamental points that I myself hold to.
1) Theocracy is on the way out. So are dictators. But it and they tend to take a lot of blood with them.
2) Freedom is fundamentally understood in the heart but people can rarely make a full dive right into the pool. It is usually step by step and even when a leap is made it continues to evolve.
3) Fundamentalism and extremism are socially speaking, directly counterproductive to freedom.
4) Women's rights as relates to social equality is at the forefront of human rights for all. Peace between the sexes is inexorably linked to peace in general.
5) Women will now play an ever increasing role in freedom and human rights especially where there is a lot of oppression of women.
6) Freedom of speech as a fundamental right in any given society is absolutely crucial for the maintaining and or promotion of social freedom in general.
Of course there are many other additional points that could and even should be brought up.
What is happening now in Iran is IMO a pinnacle turning point for human rights both in that area of the globe as well as an inspiration for all area's of the globe to continue to remain vigilant in this regard. Women are very much at least co-front participants in this movement. The courage and sacrifice is astounding and my heart goes out to them.
I'm not saying that the movement as a compete whole is not without it's questions but that there is within it a visible desire for increased social freedom.
One can make the argument that meddling of a self serving nature from the "West" has made life worse over the last 50 or more years for people in that part of the world. Also to be realistic the continued embrace of theocracy by many has been a much greater source of difficulty.
I've expressed my thoughts, views and opinions. Do feel free to express your own if you wish. The real point for me is not international politics though that is not without it's importance IMO.
But one thing is for sure, the people of Iran could use our prayers.
Here is mine:
I pray Lord that the people of Iran may find peace quickly. I pray that your will be done. You know Lord what has to be and what must happen for things to improve for the future. My heart Lord, goes out to all those who have suffered oppression and violence. May they find peace Lord. May they know that you love them. For the gift of knowing your love is the best gift of all.
Amen.
