Hey folks,
Just wanted to let everyone know that I just saw a very good movie: Glory Road. It is about the Texas Western University basketball team back in 1966 when they won the National Championship with the FIRST all black starting lineup in NCAA history. For anyone who remembers what it was like when blacks were second-class citizens (which was barely a step up from when they were property), this is an excellent movie. Pat Riley, the former coach of the LA Lakers and the NY Knicks, played in that championship game for TWU's opponent, University of Kentucky. At the end of the movie, while the credits run, Pat Riley talks about his experience in that championship game. He is a great man, who has a great mind. A real winner, even when losing.

I recommend the movie highly. If you aren't prepared, you might even shed a tear.

We’ll have to see that.

Anybody see the movie “To End All Wars” with Kiefer Sutherland? We rented it a while back. It is the true story of allied POW’s held by the Japanese in WWII. It is a remarkable portrayal of the kingdom of God in the midst of desperate circumstances. Warning, it is very brutal. If that kind of thing bothers you, don’t rent this movie.

Doug,
Yes, I saw it, and it is an extraordinary film. The screenplay was written by Brian Godawa, a Christian Reconstructionist who I am very familiar with from my days in the Theonomic movement. To me, the Recons are a real ally in the "culture war" when they focus on strengths like this. Brian is a wonderful screenwriter who writes for God's glory, and for the kingdom. Keep an eye out for him for any future screenwriting.

For those who don't know, the main character in the movie was the one who wrote the original book, about his experiences in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. It has a strong Christian message without being sappy. It is ANYTHING but sappy - right Doug?

Ed,

Yes, sappy is not a word I would use to describe this film. I thought it was very well done.
