Okay, call me cornball if you want, but I was thrilled when they announced that Taylor Hicks is the new "American Idol" (http://www.idolonfox.com/). I loved how when he sang or played, body parts would move involuntarily, lol. He really seems to become the music.

Catherine imo, played it up entirely too much for the camera and came off as disengenuine.

Doggone though if I didn't have Chris Daughtery pegged to bring it home!

Amie,
I agree! I was Shocked, shocked I say  When Chris got voted off. I thought it would come down to Taylor and Chris and Chris would win. I'm glad since it wasn't Chris is was Taylor. He is enjoyable to watch and listen too.

The San Antonio stuff was on last night, did y'all see it?

The girl who said that she had once sung for the Mayor of Houston was just too much! She didn't even form words!

And the last one who made the faces -- the faces bugged me out some! I really really hope that she can overcome that! She has an okay voice.

It would have been fun to talk about the other places too up 'til now, but I just thought about posting!

The only one sticking out in my mind is the cat guy. That was soooo strange! lol! I think that he may have been able to sing beneath all of that weirdness, but the weirdness was OVERKILL!

I know a couple of people who are from Post Falls who went and auditioned in Seattle. They got sent to LA. I was so excited to watch them audition, and then what happened? The producers decided not to show them! Argghh! They spent practically that whole show on all the outrageously untalented. Now, I'm going to have to wait and see how they fared in LA. They are under contractual agreement not to talk about it right now...

LA? Why do they say "Welcome to Hollywood" then? Sigh, well my heart is broken. I can't believe that TV would mislead a person (haha). It is curious though.

But, hahaha, that's really cool! You could be the friend of the next American Idol! :)

The auditions finished tonight. Can you believe that girl who sang "Think" by Aretha Franklin? WOW.

As always, I am still in disbelief that people who sing so horribly actually believe that they can sing. It shakes my confidence in my own ability, lol. What if I hear me wrong?.. haha

I didn't think that you meant Lousiana, and I didn't know that LA encased Hollywood - don't know if you're wrong therefore, lol! Oh well :9_cool: .

The radio stations are all abuzz around here about the San Antonio girl making it into the top 24. Did your folks make it?

Paige
02-15-2007, 10:20 AM
No, they didn't. I was still so disappointed because we never got to hear them on the show. Not when they auditioned, and not when they went to Hollywood. I got one glimpse of the gal in a group of gals celebrating in the lobby because they made it through one of the Hollywood rounds, and then never saw her after that (sigh).

American Idol is so much about vocal and stage presence and to poke fun at those that lack they can miss real talent.

Do you think if they had American Idol 45 years ago would Bob Dylan make the first cut?

:2cents:

Amie
02-15-2007, 07:20 PM
No way Bob Dylan would have made it! Yep, American Idol definately isn't the gage for what is and is not talent. I'm still not over Chris Daughtery from last year getting voted off - did you see that? ...and he has held the #1 video spot for at least three weeks now.

Amie
02-22-2007, 12:18 PM
...Looks like this is going to be a girl's competition this time thus far :)

Amie

Anyone have favorites yet?

Out of the guys Chris Sligh is my pick.

From the gals I like Jordin Sparks and Lakisha Jones.

goinliveinfive
03-22-2007, 10:33 AM
Chris Sligh and Lakisha Jones are going to be the final two unless the cosmic force that is keeping Sanjaya in this competition decides to play a huge joke on American Idol and shove him into the winner's circle. At taht point it will be Sanjaya and Lakisha and she will mop the floor with him.

And what is it about Sanjaya that makes little girls cry like that? It was like watching The Beatles perform on Ed Sullivan in '64 (although as far as I can tell no one fainted when Sanjaya appeared on stage).

Not that I was actually watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, mind... I don't have quite that many years behind me.

Paige
03-22-2007, 10:42 AM
I have to leave the room when Sanjaya starts to perform. That might make me sound cold, but I can't help it. I get physically ill watching him on stage

Every week I plead for America to put me out of my misery and vote him off! So far, to no avail...

I have to say that I like Melinda Doolittle as well as Lakisha. I think it will come down to the two of them if America votes purely based on talent.

Paige

Amie

..the cosmic force that is keeping Sanjaya in this competition..

 :ufo:

In my opinion, he has talent - it just doesn't measure up to the likes of Sligh. He also has a certain charisma -- an authenic innocence. It's like what launched a superstar... go ahead, just try to say that you don't see any similarity in their delivery...

Apparently someone is staging a hunger strike until Sanjaya is voted off and Simon has stated, for the record, that if Sanjaya wins he's quitting. Pffft... if he hasn't figured out that it's a big popularity contest by now he's really think. That should've been obvious enough when Carrie Underwood beat Bo Bice...

Howard Stern's girlfriend was on the view and she said he is getting all his fans to vote for Sanjaya. Rosie asked if he was just trying to discredit American Idol. She said no he really likes Sanjaya. All I can say is he must have a LOT of fans. Sanjays wasn't even in the bottom three. WHAT?

Paige, I am with you!!
I don't think its right that some are trying to ruin this program by keeping Sanjaya there. He should have been long gone in my opinion.
When he came out with the hair thing this week, I thought for sure that sealed his fate with leaving, but not so!!

K, well I think that Phil Stacey made a poor choice in song. It almost put me to sleep - had I not been distracted by other things in the room, haha.

And I realize that I'm supposed to be loyal to Haley Scarnato by default (since she's "local"), but come on. I think that my son put it best when he said, "She sounds like a Disney princess."

Gina Glocksen was better than both of them imo..

But hey, the great news for y'all is that Sanjaya didn't even make it in the bottom three! :biglaugha: I just can't help myself, lol! I think that he's better than some of the remaining and I did like the choice for the bottom three this time. Okay go ahead, I'm ready.. :9_cool:

Gina was better than the other two, but my mind remains firmly entrenched with disdain for Sanjaya. This is turning into a nightmare that I just can't wake from.

Hi,
Well Gina is from the next town over from me. I really liked her. I didn't think she deserved to go. Sanjaya, I am sorry to say, is growing on me:eek: I really didn't think his song was so bad this week.
The gal with the short shirts. Disney princess for sure!! I bet she has a magical job just waiting for her when this is all over. She is really pretty, but I don't think she is consistent with her song choices.

I guess it doesn't really matter if Sanjaya stays while we narrow it down to say, the final four. I mean does it really matter who goes first, Gina, Phil, Haley, maybe even Chris (although he has potential) but when it comes down to the real talent, Melinda, Lakisha, Jordon & Blake, if they get voted off before Sanjaya then the shows got a serious problem! Sanjaya even made it on the National news last night. They said there are three theories as to why Sanjaya is still there. 1. He is part Indian and that a call center in India has been flooding the show with votes after the show. 2. Howard Sterns has a web site called vote for the worst to discredit the show. 3. The 12 year old girls love him and are voting in huge numbers. They also said they don't think American Idol minds the contreversy because they are getting free plugs from other networks. I guess it gives us something to talk about on the forum (the modern day watercooler).

Sanjaya finally went home last night. I felt so very sad for him because his time there must have been an emotional strain. He's just a kid (17) and all of these people were calling him "the worst" among other things. One woman hated him so much that she decided to starve herself until he was voted off. How sad, no one really knew him at all, they just knew how he sang.

In good spirit he sang, "Let's give 'em somethin' to talk about, besides hair." Really.. "..how about love?"

What a gutsy kid to stick it out in the face of it all. I still think that he is more talented than Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson..

Amie

Paige
04-19-2007, 09:58 AM
I actually like Phil Stacey. He really reminds me (voice wise) of Steve Perry from Journey. He really shined on the country music category, too. Sanjaya's voice, IMO, just wasn't strong enough to project and grab me (ever). I also didn't like the fact that a large part of why he was there was because of people trying to "vote for the worst". Every contestant that got voted off so far has had to experience the let down.

As for Chris Richardson, I totally agree. I have never liked his voice either.

Amie
04-19-2007, 10:02 AM
Yep, "voting for the worst" seemed very harmful imo - to all involved.

I think that Phil Stacey's hat gets in the way of my hearing his voice, lol! All that I can do is complain about it when he's on - it's just awful imo. I'll have to listen for the Perry sound next week (I'll be open :)).

Yeah! I was shocked! I think that she has more talent than the other two. Jordan is young so has more untapped potential. Blake too. No offense, but of the two, I like Blake best :).

Paige
05-17-2007, 08:45 PM
I was really sad to see Melinda go. She was so talented, and I agree with Simon...She was consistent. You could bank on her to have a gret performance week after week. My gut was telling me that she was going home last night because I think the other two have the youth vote behind them.

Jordan has a stronger vocal depth and range, but Blake is current. (I think Blake is going to win.)

Amie

Lauri
05-25-2007, 10:12 AM
Well I liked Blake best but I'm glad Jordan won. I think Blake will do better on his own like Chris Daughtry did. Blake is so talented and creative that I think he would have been too limited if he won and had to do the American Idol tour and all that goes along with it. I think Jordan is better suited for the American Idol image and she definately wanted it more. I'm pretty sure Blake will end up more famous and with more hits than Jordan in the long run.

No name is sticking in my mind yet this year. The fella with the dread locks is interesting, the fella from Australia is pretty good, and WOW what that fella did with "Hello" by Lionel Richie tonight! Awesome! My fav so far is Archuleta (I looked it up).

I'll think more about the girls tomorrow night when their on. Right now it's hard to put a finger on.

What are y'all thinkin' this year so far?

I heard that folks were going nuts over that new take on "Love is a Battlefield", but I am not among them. MAYBE I will have liked it more if it were sung by someone having a better voice.

Some of those girls sound like they would make perfect voices for Disney princesses, but NOT Pop or Rock.

That one girl who copies Janice Joplin is on that last nerve that things tend to get on of mine (lol). If you'll recall, when she tried out they asked her to stop copying Joplin and sing with her own voice and she sounded really good - BUT REALLY DIFFERENT!! NOW, she's still singing like Joplin and straining to keep up the facade.

My first impressions are not always right on - just speaking my mind as it currently is.

It will be a lot easier to keep up with now that they're in the final 12.

Amie,
Are you talking about the rocker chic/nurse? I really like her. My favorites of the girls are her and the one who looks and sound kinda like Carly Simon and sometimes plays the piano and guitar, she's got blond curly hair. Not the one named Carly, I can't remember anyones name yet.

Lauri

Amie
04-02-2008, 07:06 AM
Lauri,

Sorry that your rocker chic is gone :). I didn't think that she was without talent, I think that she tried too hard - know what I mean? And you know, that's my professional opinion as a music producer... LOLOL!!

Have you heard of Dane Cook? I think he's so funny. In one show he talks about how we all suddenly become judges during movie previews ("That's going to be a good one.."). I think that American Idol has the same affect, lol!

So eh, David Cook is turning out to be better than I expected - though he is no Chris Daughtery. I still like the little David fella too. Michael Johns holds his own and Jason Castro seems to me more like a guitar player singing lead (know what I mean?).

As for the girls, I like Carly Smithson and my most fav of the girls (right now) Syesha Mercado. (Sorry Simon, she rocked the Whitney/Dolly song..)

Have you been keeping up still?

Amie

Lauri
04-02-2008, 10:43 AM
Amie,
Ya I'm still keeping up. Are we the only ones watching this season, or just the only ones commenting? I'm with you I've really been impressed with David cook and I still really like David A. I could see him becoming another teeny bopper Donny Osmond type. For the girls my favorite is still Brooke. I just think she is really talented, maybe lacks a little self confidence but I like her. I like Carly Smithson too.

Lauri

Lauri
04-08-2008, 10:31 PM
Well I think my Brooke White is going to be gone. She really needed to step it up and she just didn't this week. I think she's got a lot of talent but she just isn't bringing it. Oh well. Did you like Jason on the Uke singing over the rainbow? I thought it was really wierd but the judges all seemed to love it. he reminded me of Tiny Tim but you are probably too young to remember him Amie.

Lauri

Amie
04-09-2008, 07:02 AM
Lauri,

I SO remember Tiny Tim! "Tip toe through the tulips"! LOL! I still cannot believe that was his real voice!

Bryan has had a problem with Jason from the beginning. He has issues with dread locks, lol! He imagines them to smell really bad -- even though I've told him that nowadays folks use salon products instead of years of dirt and insects to produce the dreads! lol!

I like him okay - but just okay. Brooke actually won me over last night but towards the middle of the performance I got bored with the song itself. Bryan said that he likes the sound of her voice.

We have picked David A, David C, and Carly. What's your pick?

In Dane Cook's HBO stand up special thingy, he talked about movie previews and how we could all be movie critics.. after the previews role folks whisper "That's gonna be good" or whatever. I think a lot of reality shows have the similar ability. Suddenly we're all music producers, truth detectors (I don't keep up with that show much), judges of character (Survivor), etc. heh..

Amie

Lauri
04-09-2008, 10:37 AM
Amie,
I would have to agree with your picks. Only I would say David C., David A., and Carly in that order so far. I don't think I'm a very good music critic. When Randy says they were pitchy I just don't hear it, they always sound good to me (except for Senjaya). It's more about the emotion and connecting to the song and singer for me. My family say's I'm tone deaf and can't sing on key but I don't let that stop me. :D

Lauri

Amie
04-09-2008, 11:43 AM
Lauri,

I guess I should have added the disclaimer "In no certain order", lol! I like how you have it, and agree with the "so far" part too!

Sorry though, you are still a music critic regardless of your methodology - maybe even a good one and judging by your pick, probably so. My opinion is right, give it up.. LOL!! LMHO!!
