I found this Abraham Lincoln quote this morning. I though it was remarkable on several levels, and just wanted to share it here under "Girl Talk."
"A woman is the only thing that I am afraid of that I know will not hurt me"

Kevin, you're not afraid of us women are you, lol?
Oh how oxymoronic, hahaha! Kidding of course.
I wanted to know what Lincoln feared about women and came up with:
"Whatever woman may cast her lot with mine, should any ever do so, it is my intention to do all in my power to make her happy and contented; and there is nothing I can imagine that would make me more unhappy than to fail in the effort."
So is this a compliment or a put-down? Is this guy so undifferentiated and fearful? Or is he calling me a grizzly bear? (haha)

Did any of you see the most recent documentary of Lincoln on the history channel? It was sooo interesting. What a sad and horendous life. Anyway, The woman he really loved died when they were engaged. He never got over it. The woman who became his wife had quite a few mental problems. Came at him with knives and stuff. Something I thought was quite interesting was the part about his faith. He never did embrace Christianity. Why?? you many ask :D Because he just couldn't accept that God would send ppl to eternal torment because they had made a few mistakes in this short life. Hmm. Sounds like a man with a beating heart. And this is a guy who had every reason to think God a mean and vindictive being...yet he still held this view. Tami

Tami,
I also saw the history channel's show about Lincoln and also found it very interesting. Lincoln has always interested me.
As for his thoughts on women...it does seem that he was hurt by women in more ways than one throughout his life.

Guess we know who he was calling grizzly bear then, don't we?

I reckon that it's important to remember that it isn't just arrogance that would cause a man to see a woman as a grizzly bear. I wonder how often arrogance is a response to that fear Lincoln describes.
