Hi,
I was just wondering how many moms on the forum home schooled their kids. When our daughter was 15 we pulled her out of high school and our Th grader at the time. It was the best years of our lives I believe. We had so much fun. We slept late. Stayed up late. Baked and laughed and went to the show in the middle of the day and to Disney at off season.
We pretty much un-schooled. My daughter went from home school right into the jr college to get her LTA in Library. Our son is doing all his college through correspondence. I miss those days so much.
I even home schooled my nephew. He was failing high school so said I would home school him so he could earn a diploma. He would show up everyday with his radio blasting on his car and sit at the computer and work like crazy. I was so proud of him. Anyway, I know its not for everyone. I was fortunate that I was able to stay home and do it. We kind of started late in schools system. Most start right off with kindergarten. But I wouldn't trade those years for anything.
Blessings,
Nancy:biggrinbounce:

We've homeschooled ours from birth. In another year and a half, we'll officially be done. I'm still tutoring my oldest who's a grad student in a field I didn't officially study.

Nancy,

We homeschool here too. My oldest is done and working in the career field that he prepared for in college. Our oldest daughter is scheduled to finish this year. We have a 9th and 6th grader also. I'm trying something new this year, a public charter at home. There are advantages and disadvantages to this. (All textbooks are free and no tuition, but less personal control because I am responsible to a district.) The 9th grader does quite a bit online, the 6th grader not as much. So far, so good. We started with all of them in K. I am enjoying what I do. However, it is a full-time job. Where I run into problems is when certain family members can't figure out why I'm not available much during the day.

I think since my kids were 15 and 13 when we started it was easier for us to help out where needed. At that time my dad had a heart attack and my husbands dad was dying from Alzheimer's, so the kids were able to help all of them a lot. Cleaning and cooking and eventually driving them places.

Our daughter if she can get feeling better, wants to go for her masters in library science. What I thought was interesting, even when she was in college she would stop here for me to test her on her exams.

I think because my kids also had learned a lot of basics that I didn't have to teach them, that that helped. They could read and write and were really good in Math. Which I hated. Our daughter read over 500 books during her high school years and our son, built so many things and made up lots of weird potions with left over food in the house!!

Anyway, I am glad we did it at least when we did.
