Am I the only hopeless romantic when it comes to some of the old music out there.
As a hobby my family puts together video memorials, birthday, weddings, what ever you want for friends and family. And the song "Always" by Irving Berlin always is a choice. I just love that song.
We are working on one now for a friend of ours whose mom turns 80 in January. She had the song Always at her wedding in 1947 as did my mom and dad in 1946.
So I decided to research a little on Irving Berlin. He was Jewish and his family came here from Russia to America when he was very young. His dad was a Rabbi. When his dad died, Irving who originally had a Jewish name, sold papers and as he got older was asked to write a song for a local saloon. It was a hit. His first wife passed away after 5 months of marriage due to contacting typhoid on their honeymoon to Cuba. He remarried 6 years later to a Catholic girl. Her family was very wealthy and her dad dis-inherited her cause of the marriage to the Jewish Irving. As a wedding gift for her, Irving wrote the song Always and cave the rights to her. Irving himself lived to be 101 and they had a long marriage of over 60 years.
I have been dancing around the kitchen today, listening to the words and music to Always. What a great Legacy I thought to myself. To leave this wonderful music that is timeless. Just like Grace.

I'll be loving you Always
with a love thats true Always
when the things you've planned
need a helping hand
I will understand Always Always
Days many not be fair Always
thats when I'll be there Always
Not for just an hour
Not for just a day
not for just a year
but Always.

May this song bless your hearts today.

I like "Puttin' on the Ritz", "Cheek to Cheek", and "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better", "Blue Skies", "White Christmas", and I'm sure many more. I didn't realize how many of his songs that I have heard and enjoyed. I bet that most of the ones that I listen to are remakes, but good none-the-less. Like you said, "timeless".

Amie,
I find it amazing how many of those old songs I know by heart. I think some are from White Christmas, and Easter Parade with Judy Garland, Yankee Doodle Dandy. Some with Fred Astar. We grew up watching all those classic movies. This week I have been singing a lot of Cole Porter songs, like Unforgettable.
Love them all,
Nancy
