Tonight the 2nd and 3rd grade put on a "barn dance" for us proud parents. The 2nd grade was up first (my daughter). On each side of the school gym, they formed two parallel lines (like they were going to square or line dance).
Everyone stood across from a partner, save my lonesome little girl on the end. At first she wasn't sure what to do, and looked over at me for some sort of guidance. I gave her an encouraging look with a smile and she began to dance with herself. She clapped hands with an invisible partner and hooked her arm through the invisible arm of the invisible other and spun around and around.
She looked over at me a few more times, and each time, I clapped, smiled, and let her know in our unspoken language that I was bursting with pride. She put her chin up (she has always resembled Shirley Temple with her locks, upturned nose, and happy cheeks), poked out her chest, and took it from there.
It wasn't long before people began asking me if that was my daughter, and giving me compliments. I was/am so doggon proud of her. She has sooo much spunk - I hope that it never goes away.
