This song brings to my mind the cycles of and in life. Sorrow, pain, hope, and happiness...

lightning crashes, a new mother cries
her placenta falls to the floor
the angel opens her eyes
the confusion sets in
before the doctor can even close the door

lightning crashes, an old mother dies
her intentions fall to the floor
the angel closes her eyes
the confusion that was hers
belongs now, to the baby down the hall

oh now feel it comin' back again
like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it.

lightning crashes, a new mother cries
this moment she's been waiting for
the angel opens her eyes
pale blue colored iris,
presents the circle
and puts the glory out to hide, hide

I've been a fan of Live since the early 90s. Ed Kowalczyk is one of those songwriters who you can tell thinks about the lyrics he writes and they're loaded with meaning. He's a very spiritual guy, too. Not much of a fan of Christianity (see: Pain Lies on the Riverside), but at the same time He does acknowledge the existence of God and how God is visible in creation (see Heaven)). I really like that. Integrity in one's lyrics makes for some very powerful songs and Live has no shortage of those.

Joe,

God is able to speak through us regardless of our religion or non-religion imo. He is love, and within us all. Really good artists have a powerful way of tapping in to that and communicating it - usually through experiencing the endurance of pain at some time in their lives.

I realize that some align "love" with a "feel good" only thing - like a great drug. I think it deserves far more credit. Love endures - that's some really tough stuff.

This song, to me, tells the story of endurance and bittersweet rebirth and ongoing life.
