View Full Version : Petition
I thought that "video game" would qualify under "tv" :). Here's the generated message after I signed this petition:
I have signed the online petition at www.nleomf.com to support the ban of
Eidos' "25-to-Life," believing that its violent nature represents a threat
to our children and our law enforcement officers. This petition asks that
the game be removed from the U.S. market.
The "25-to-Life" video game allows players the option to role-play by
shooting fellow gang members and police officers and using innocent
bystanders as human shields. The Web site advertising the game boasts that
players have "more than 40 weapons to choose from, including shotguns,
machine guns, stun guns and tear gas."
I encourage you to also sign the petition, which is located at
http://www.nleomf.com/25tolife/friends.shtml .
Thank you!
I received an email not long after signing it saying that I would be receiving their (National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial) newsletters and updates to which I politely unsubbed. I feel that the point of it all is well worth the hassle. It's a real petition and I hope they get it passed.

I got an e-mail message the other day about this and signed on as well. We'll have to wait and see if the creators of the game take any notice...

Sorry, I'm not going to sign their petition. Their organization supports laws that make it harder for me to protect myself and my family. They push for laws that separate cops from the citizens that employ them. They lionize suicides and deaths due to stupidity and grossly inflate their numbers.
JL
JL,
I don't support the organization itself by signing the petition imo, I support what the petition is about. I don't know anything about that organization other than their effort at pulling this very negative video games off shelves (I'm in support of that) and what you've said which of course doesn't sound positive.

I didn't sign on to support anything other than the attempt to stop the spread of this particular game. I didn't read signing the petiton as synonymous with joining the gun control lobby. I know the person who sent me this e-mail is pro 2nd amendment.

Paige, Amie,
Signing THEIR petition boosts THEIR numbers and boosts THEIR prestige and influence in other areas.
Here's the entire petition:
I support the ban of Eidos' "25 to LifeŠ," believing that its violent nature represents a threat to our children and our law enforcement officers. I petition to have the game removed from the U.S. market.
What ban currently exists on the game? None that I can find.
Why single out LEO's for special treatment and benefits? What about mothers? What about fathers?
Removed how? We can't get movies banned. If you film prositution it becomes legal "freedom of speech."
Who's the petition to? It's generic. They can present it to whoever they please to maximize press coverage.
The petition is designed to do nothing but encourage people to support THEIR organization and THEIR causes. They will win greater access to lawmakers to do those things we're against. They will win greater access to the press. But this petition will do nothing for this one issue.

I agree...I did see the LEO language as a tool to stir up emotion. My reasoning for wanting the game off the shelves is because it encourages the taking of human life as a sport, and I think that mindset is detrimental to all of us as a whole.
However, if I have been used as a pawn, it probably is not the first time. I'll have to leave it in God's hands now...

I'll concede that it boosts the numbers visiting their site and therefore influence. I have full faith that talk-grace readers are grown-ups and can decide for themselves whether or not they want to jump in and support the organization itself - Paige and I are examples of two that just wanted to support the petition.

That does not mean that one does not or will not exist, that means you couldn't find one. I'm not defending them, it could be true that one doesn't exist.
Why single out LEO's for special treatment and benefits? What about mothers? What about fathers?
My guess is that it is an organization created to benefit LEOs? Will there be a test on this? (lol) I'm sure that there are organizations that support mothers and/or fathers out there as well.

My own wording was probably wrong - removed from the hands of children. I agree that their word ("ban") is not exactly that.
Who's the petition to?
Good point.
It's generic.
There is no evidence of that, nondisclosure doesn't mean that it doesn't exist - again, that is not to say that what you imply is untrue.
They can present it to whoever they please to maximize press coverage.
True. And this is only a problem if you don't support their organization's having coverage.
The petition is designed to do nothing but encourage people to support THEIR organization and THEIR causes.
In the least, to go to their website. Other than that, this is only speculation on your part (not saying that it is right or wrong).
They will win greater access to lawmakers to do those things we're against. They will win greater access to the press. But this petition will do nothing for this one issue.
These things are again speculative - could be right, could be wrong.
However, if I have been used as a pawn, it probably is not the first time. I'll have to leave it in God's hands now...
Whether it's true or not, we've learned to be more savy :)
